In Christ - I am complete in Him

I am complete in Him...

Colossians 2:9,10 And you are complete in Christ, Who is the head over every power and authority…

A Fullness in Christ

And from his fullness we have all received.  John 1:16

“These words tell us that there is a fullness in Christ. There is a fullness of essential Deity, for "in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily."1 There is a fullness of perfect manhood, for in Him, bodily, that Godhead was revealed. There is a fullness of atoning efficacy in His blood, for "the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin."2 There is a fullness of justifying righteousness in His life, for "there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."3 There is a fullness of divine prevalence in His plea, for "He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them."4 There is a fullness of victory in His death, for through death He destroyed him that had the power of death--that is, the devil. There is a fullness of efficacy in His resurrection from the dead, for by it "He has caused us to be born again to a living hope."5 There is a fullness of triumph in His ascension, for "when He ascended on high He led a host of captives, and He gave gifts to men."6 There is a fullness of blessings of every sort and shape; a fullness of grace to pardon, of grace to regenerate, of grace to sanctify, of grace to preserve, and of grace to perfect. There is a fullness at all times; a fullness of comfort in affliction, a fullness of guidance in prosperity. A fullness of every divine attribute--of wisdom, of power, of love; a fullness that it is impossible to survey, much less to explore. "For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell."7

“Oh, what a fullness must this be of which all receive! Fullness, indeed, must there be when the stream is always flowing, and yet the well springs up as free, as rich, as full as ever. Come, believer, and get all your need supplied; ask largely, and you will receive largely, for this "fullness" is inexhaustible and is treasured up where all the needy may reach it, even in Jesus, Immanuel--God with us.”

1Colossians 2:9 21 John 1:7 3Romans 8:1 4Hebrews 7:25 51 Peter 1:3 6Ephesians 4:8 7Colossians 1:19

I have to admit that for too many years I lived like a pauper instead of a Princess – I knew I was God’s daughter, but I didn’t “get” what that really meant.  Thankfully, I’ve grown in my faith – and in my relationship with the Lord – and I’ve discovered that “stream that is always flowing!”  I try not to get too far away from the source – but when I do, and when I start feeling parched – I remember where to go and I drink deeply of His blessings.  What refreshment – what relief – what blessings – await His children!  No more running to the world for me – now that I’ve tasted of the Source, nothing else will do!

In Christ - I am free from condemnation

I am free from condemnation...

Romans 8:1  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus...

Colossians 1:21,22 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation—

New Life Daily Devotion – Steve Arterburn – November 2, 2010

No Condemnation

“We may be punishing ourselves. We certainly feel like we deserve it! We don't just feel guilty; we feel like this last fall proves that we're rotten to the core. Our feelings of self-condemnation may go beyond guilt for the wrong behavior, convincing us of our worthlessness. It seems futile to keep trying.

“The apostle Paul talked about how frustrating it can be to fall back into the very things we hate (see Romans 7). But then he concludes, ‘So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to Him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death’ (Romans 8:1-2).

“Our feelings of condemnation come from ourselves and Satan, not from God. The Bible calls Satan "the accuser." Looking to a future day, it says, "It has come at last—salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth—the one who accuses them before our God day and night’ (Revelation 12:10).

“God will convict us of the wrong of our behavior, so we can confess it and receive cleansing forgiveness. Remember, ‘If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness’ (1 John 1:9). Let's not give in to the condemnation. We're not hopeless and worthless! We just fell. God wants to dust us off and set us back on the path to a better life.

“God never condemns those who look to Him for forgiveness, even after the greatest of failures.”

That is good news, indeed!  I know what it’s like to live with the weight of failure – it’s not fun, is it?  It took me time – and effort – and discipline – but I no longer feel about myself the way I did when I first re-committed my life to Christ after wallowing in the gutter for almost two years.  I no longer carry that weight of shame and guilt – they’re GONE – for GOOD!  There ARE days and times when I look back with sadness – but I can also see the grace and mercy of God in my life, and I’m not overcome or overwhelmed!  I can look back into my past and admit the ugly facts – I’m a SINNER saved by GRACE!  Don’t let the enemy rob you of the joy God has promised by rubbing your nose in your past failures.  Pick yourself up and keep walking the path of righteousness!  And remember – Satan has lost the final battle – he’s a loser and a liar, so don’t give him a nano-second of your time!

In Christ - I am reconciled to God

I am reconciled to God...

II Corinthians 5:18 All this is from God, Who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation...

“Imagine two friends who have a fight or argument. The good relationship they once enjoyed is strained to the point of breaking. They cease speaking to each other; communication is deemed too awkward. The friends gradually become strangers. Such estrangement can only be reversed by reconciliation. To be reconciled is to be restored to friendship or harmony. When old friends resolve their differences and restore their relationship, reconciliation has occurred. Second Corinthians 5:18-19 declares, ‘All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.’

“The Bible says that Christ reconciled us to God (Romans 5:10; 2 Corinthians 5:18; Colossians 1:20-21). The fact that we needed reconciliation means that our relationship with God was broken. Since God is holy, we were the ones to blame. Our sin alienated us from Him. Romans 5:10 says that we were enemies of God: ‘For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!’

“When Christ died on the cross, He satisfied God’s judgment and made it possible for God’s enemies, us, to find peace with Him. Our ‘reconciliation’ to God, then, involves the exercise of His grace and the forgiveness of our sin. The result of Jesus’ sacrifice is that our relationship has changed from enmity to friendship. ‘I no longer call you servants … Instead, I have called you friends’ (John 15:15). Christian reconciliation is a glorious truth! We were God’s enemies, but are now His friends. We were in a state of condemnation because of our sins, but we are now forgiven. We were at war with God, but now have the peace that transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7)!”

Isn’t it awesome to know that we are no longer enemies of God?  What a RELIEF!  We are God’s friend – fully restored to Him because of Jesus.  That breach in fellowship that occurred in the Garden of Eden has been repaired – and just as Adam and Eve could walk with God with no worries or concerns – so can we walk with Him in peace, not fearing His anger or judgment!  You ARE reconciled to God – and you’ve been given the ministry of reconciliation.  Go and tell others what God has done for them – live your life in a such a way that they see the truth of reconciliation in your life!  Sharon

In Christ - I am in Christ Jesus

I am in Christ Jesus...

I Corinthians 1:30 It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, Who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

Joni and Friends Daily Devotional
May 6, 20

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.   Colossians 3:2-4

“When I was in Russia, my husband Ken purchased one of those wooden hand-painted peasant dolls that twist open at the middle to reveal another doll inside. You take the smaller doll out, open it, and another, even smaller one is inside. Open that one, and you discover a tinier doll! The fun is in discovering all that's hidden inside of each doll.

“To me, it was an excellent picture of being hidden with Christ in God. We are in Him and He is hidden in the Father. The fun is in discovering all that this means. As the verse says, we have died and our true life lies in the other world, the spiritual world. The perfection of all that we shall one day be is reserved for us in heaven. It is hidden with Christ -- not only from us (like a secret) but for us (like a safety deposit box). At the present time, even Christ is hidden - but we take comfort that even though we cannot see Him, our life is hidden with Him and laid up safely with Him. In the same way, we can rest, knowing that although our ultimate happiness is presently out of sight, it is nevertheless reserved in heaven for us.

“What a picture of safety and protection. Nothing can touch us, nothing can harm us for we are hidden in Christ, and He is hidden in the Father. And one day, when Christ is revealed, when He appears, then who we are - our true identity - will no longer be concealed.

“As we follow the advice of Colossians 3:2 and set our minds on things above, we enjoy discovering ‘what's inside.’ Today, ponder what you might be like, sound like, act like when you appear with Him in glory. As you muse on things above, what is hidden becomes clear.

“Lord, I want to understand this mystery and so I set my heart and mind on things above where You are seated at the right hand of the Father - one day I will actually ‘be’ the person You've intended me to be all along. Thank you for hiding me in Your heart.”

I have several sets of these dolls – matryoshkas – and they’re really pretty cool!  Over the years I’ve bought many sets of them – some very simple – some very detailed – and I’ve seen sets with as many as 20 dolls and as few as 3.  Each doll is handmade and unique – even those done by the same artist are different from one set to the next.  Within a set of dolls each doll is different – and many tell a story of some sort.  As Joni shared, our relationship with the Lord is reminiscent of these dolls – what we see on the outside – the largest doll – is not what’s inside.  Each layer is handled by the Master Craftsman – each doll tells its own story – and it’s not until all of our “flesh” is carved away will we see the truth of who we are on the inside.   Sadly, I often see too much of who I am on the inside – because my flesh hasn’t been completely removed yet, I know what I’m capable of – but God sees the finished product – He sees the little doll just waiting to be revealed.  He knows my story from beginning to end and is painstakingly creating His masterpiece in my life.  I’ve never been one to enjoy the process – I want to jump right to the end result – but that’s not how He works.  He’s slow – careful – meticulous – and won’t stop until He’s finished.  All I have to do is cooperate with Him and trust that He knows what He’s doing!  I’m not that littlest doll yet – but I’m on my way – and so are you!  Sharon

In Christ - I am more than a conqueror

I am more than a conqueror...

Romans 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Daily Word – Pastor Jack Graham – 3/2/2012

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.  Ephesians 2:13

“One day Napoleon was standing before his army after he was defeated at Waterloo. He was trying to cover his losses and see what his next move would be. Napoleon realized that his quest for world domination was practically over. He had a map of the world on the wall and on that map the British Isles were marked in red. Napoleon angrily said to his generals, as he pointed to the red marked on that map, ‘Were it not for that red spot, we would have conquered the world!’

“I can imagine Satan gathering his hoards after Jesus’ death on Calvary. All of the demon spirits  and the generals of hell listening as Satan pointed to the blood drenched slopes of Calvary and said, ‘Were it not for that red spot, we would have conquered the world!’

“But because of what Jesus has done for us, ‘we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us’ (Romans 8:37). And it’s because of the blood of Jesus Christ that you can have full confidence that sin and Satan have been conquered in your life.

“The blood of Christ is the very power of God. It is by His death and resurrection that we have any hope of salvation at all. So remember that by the power of Christ’s blood, you have all the victory you need in the name of Jesus Christ!

“THE BLOOD OF CHRIST SAVES YOU FROM SIN AND GIVES YOU VICTORY OVER SATAN. SO CLAIM THAT TRUTH IN YOUR LIFE AND LIVE VICTORIOUSLY THANKS TO HIS FINISHED WORK!”

I thank God for that “red spot” – for it has washed and cleansed me and made me white as snow – and it gives me the power to have the victory over the enemy every single day!  There is nothing you or I will face that can’t be overcome by that “red spot” – the blood of Jesus is powerful – and when we place ourselves under it, we are transfused with it – and transformed into conquerors!  Is there a besetting sin in your life?  Something that you can’t seem to get control over?  Submit it to the blood of Jesus – take it to Him – He has promised to give you victory over it!  Sadly, I talk to too many Christians who would rather wallow in their “inability” to live victorious lives than to take the time and effort to allow Jesus to transform them.  We are without excuse when it comes to ongoing, continuing sin!  If you’re doing something you know is wrong and you don’t stop – it’s not because you “can’t” – it’s because you “won’t!”  Dear one, I hope that you will make the choice today to allow God to empower you to live a victorious life!  Sharon

In Christ - I am redeemed from the curse of the law

I am redeemed from the curse of the law...

I Peter 1:18,19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

Galatians 3:10-14 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them." But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith." Yet the law is not of faith, but "the man who does them shall live by them." Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) ,that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Treasuring Redemption's Price

"The key to understanding the cry of Jesus from the cross is found in Paul's letter to the Galatians: "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree'" (Gal. 3:13, NIV).

"To be cursed is to be removed from the presence of God, to be set outside the camp, to be cut off from His benefits. On the cross, Jesus was cursed. That is, He represented the Jewish nation of covenant breakers who were exposed to the curse and took the full measure of the curse on Himself. As the Lamb of God, the Sin Bearer, He was cut off from the presence of God.

"On the cross, Jesus entered into the experience of forsakenness on our behalf. God turned His back on Jesus and cut Him off from all blessing, from all keeping, from all grace, and from all peace.

"God is too holy to even look at iniquity. God the Father turned His back on the Son, cursing Him to the pit of hell while He hung on the cross. Here was the Son's "descent into hell." Here the fury of God raged against Him. His scream was the scream of the damned. For us.

"Reflect on what Jesus did for you on Calvary. Give thanks for the Lamb of God who bore your sin."

What a blessing it is to know that we are no longer under the curse of God!  Walk in that freedom today, dear one!  Sharon

In Christ - I am strong to the end...

I am strong to the end...

I Corinthians 1:8 He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude 1:24,25  To Him Who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy--to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Morning and Evening

March 14 Morning Reading

"It is a curious fact that there is such a thing as being proud of grace. A man says, 'I have great faith - I shall not fall; poor little faith may, but I never shall.'  'I have fervent love,' says another.  'I can stand; there is no danger of my going astray.'  He who boasts of grace has little grace to boast of.  Some who do this imagine that their graces can keep them, knowing not that the stream must flow constantly from the fountainhead or else the stream will soon be dry.  If a continuous supply of oil does not come to the lamp, even though it may burn brightly today, it will smoke tomorrow, and noxious will be its scent.  Pay attention that you do not glory in your graces, but let all your glorying and confidence be in Christ and His strength, for only in this way can you be kept from falling.  Be much more diligent in prayer.  Spend longer time in holy adoration.  Read the Scriptures more earnestly and constantly.  Watch your lives more carefully. Live nearer to God.  Take the best examples for your pattern. Let your conversation be full of heaven.  Let your hearts be perfumed with affection for men's souls. Live in such a way that men may recognize that you have been with Jesus and have learned of Him;  and when that happy day shall come, when He whom you love shall say, 'Come up higher,' may it be your happiness to hear Him say, 'You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, and henceforth there is laid up for you the crown of righteousness that doesn't fade.'  Keep on, Christian, with care and caution!  Go on, with holy fear and trembling!  On, with faith and confidence in Jesus alone, and let your constant petition be, 'Uphold me according to Your promise.' He alone is able 'to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy.'"

What a great reminder that our walk as Believers is not passive - it's active - it requires our participation in maintaining holiness and closeness to the Savior.  BUT - in the end - it is HIS strength that sustains us - we must turn to Him when we feel weak - when we are tempted - when our world seems to be falling apart - when we feel that we just can't go on - when a loved one is sick/dying or has walked away from the Lord.  HE will keep you strong - but only when - and if - you turn to Him and ask for that strength!  I've seen many a Christian wander off the path and get themselves into trouble because they didn't keep their eyes fixed on Jesus (myself included).  How much better off we are - and will eternally be - when we can learn to walk side-by-side with Jesus and allow the Spirit to guide and direct our every action! Sharon

In Christ - I am near to Jesus

I am near to Jesus...

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

Psalms 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.

Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

James 4:8a Come near to God and He will come near to you.

Torn in Two
Morning and Evening - C.H. Spurgeon and Alistair Begg
April 19, 2013
And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.
Matthew 27:51

"No small miracle was performed in the tearing of so strong and thick a curtain; but it was not intended merely as a display of power--many lessons were contained in it.

"The old law of ordinances was put away and, like a worn-out garment, torn and set aside. When Jesus died, the sacrifices were all finished, because they were fulfilled in Him; and therefore the place of sacrifice, the temple, was marked with a clear sign of this change.

"With the curtain torn, all the hidden things of the old dispensation became apparent: The mercy-seat could now be seen, and the glory of God gleaming above it. By the death of our Lord Jesus we have a clear revelation of God, for He was 'not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face.' Life and immortality are now brought to light, and things that have been hidden since the foundation of the world are displayed in Him.

"The annual ceremony of atonement was also abolished. The atoning blood that once every year was sprinkled inside the curtain was now offered once for all by the great High Priest, and therefore the place of the symbolical rite was finished. No blood of bullocks or of lambs is needed now, for Jesus has entered inside the curtain with His own blood.

"Therefore access to God is now permitted and is the privilege of every believer in Christ Jesus. It is not just a small opening through which we may peer at the mercy-seat, but the tear reaches from the top to the bottom. We may come with boldness to the throne of heavenly grace.

"Is it wrong to suggest that the opening of the Holy of Holies in this marvelous manner by our Lord's expiring cry was signifying the opening of the gates of paradise to all the saints by virtue of the Passion? Our bleeding Lord has the key of heaven; He opens and no man shuts; let us enter in with Him to the heavenly places and sit with Him there until our common enemies shall be made His footstool."

What separated Adam and Eve from God?  It was their sin.  What separated the children of Israel from Jehovah?  It was their sin.  What separates man from knowing God now?  Our sin.  Praise JESUS that a way has been made to have fellowship with Him again!  Once saved, we have immediate access to Jesus - and to the Father - and nothing and no one can keep us from drawing near to Him!  We're still going to sin - and when we do we need to repent - turn from our sin - agree with God that what we've done is wrong - and then we're able to experience the full benefit of a relationship with Jesus.  Is there something in your life today that needs to be confessed?  Don't let another minute go by without taking it to the Father - drawing near to His heart - and allowing Him to wash and cleanse you anew!  Don't be afraid to draw near - He longs to be near you, too!  Sharon

In Christ - I am set free

I am set free...

John 8:31,32  To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, "If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Psalms 119:32 I run in the path of Your commands, for You have set my heart free.

Galatians 5:13  You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.

Life’s Great Liberator
Luke 4:16-21

"From some people’s countenance, we judge them to be happy. Smiles, makeup, and stylish clothing can create an appearance of inner peace. Internally, though, many are in bondage.
In today’s passage, Jesus clarifies His purpose: He has come to set free those in captivity. Christ was referring to several types of bonds that can imprison our souls.

"First, Jesus breaks the chains of sin. All people have broken God’s law and consequently live apart from Him (Rom. 3:23). But Christ’s death and resurrection free us when we accept His gift of forgiveness and place our trust in Him. Then we can have a relationship with the Lord.
Secondly, He liberates us from persistent sins like jealousy, bitterness, and gluttony. His Spirit resides within each believer and provides the power to overcome wrong choices that seemed to “own” us. He enables us to do what He desires—by bringing immediate healing or by giving guidance and strength in the ongoing battle.

"The Creator of mankind made us with a void in our hearts for Jesus to fill. Everything we put there—whether it seems like a good thing at the time or an obvious bad choice—will ultimately leave us empty. And we will remain in bondage until God frees us and then provides the only true satisfaction.

"Are you one of those people who appear happy and seem to have life figured out, and yet inside feel uneasy and empty? Jesus Christ is the only One who can redeem you, forgive your sins, and fill the vacant place in your soul. Allow Him to liberate you today."

It's a good idea to take stock of our lives on a regular basis to make sure we haven't slipped back into the bondage from which Jesus has redeemed us.  Slipping is so easy to do - especially if we're not carefully watching our footing!  I've always been known to be the one who's going to find the hole to trip in - the rock to trip over - or the crack to trip on.  It's kind of a running joke - "send Sharon out ahead - she'll find the potholes!"  That's funny - kind of - until I do find that hole!  What's NOT so funny is when I find myself in a spiritual hole or flat on my face because I've slipped up somewhere in my walk with Christ.  Fortunately it doesn't happen as often as it used to - but I'm not immune to falling - and I have to be just as vigilant as any other saint to be sure my feet are firmly planted in the Word of God and that I'm walking as far away from the "line in the sand" as I can get.  SO - I encourage you - take a look at your life and see where you're standing - or where you've fallen - and if you've slipped back into bondage, turn to Jesus for rescue!  He'll never let you go!  Sharon

In Christ - I am saved

I am saved...
I Thessalonians 5:9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Titus 3:4,5 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but because of His mercy He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit...

Hebrews 7:25 Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.

Sweeter Than the Day Before

Salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. --Romans 13:11

"It's true. My salvation is so much dearer, sweeter and nearer to me than when I first believed as a teenager. I appreciated what Jesus had done when I was new in the faith, but I never considered Him... precious. Only old hymn writers spoke of Him as precious! Now I am old. And Jesus is my true Friend, my Fortress when I am frightened, my Beloved when I give Him praise, my Righteousness when I have sinned, the Shepherd who seeks me when I've gone astray.

"How did Jesus become so precious to me? I look at it this way: today is the first day of the rest of my salvation! The Christian idea of salvation involves the past, present, and future. Ephesians 2:8 says 'By grace you have been saved through faith.' First Corinthians 1:18 explains that 'the Gospel is the power of God to us who are being saved.' Romans 13:11 says 'Salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.' We have been saved. We are being saved. And we will be saved. At every stage we are saved by the death of Christ. In the past, our sins were paid for by Christ on the cross. In the present, the death of Jesus secures the power of God's Spirit to save us from the domination of sin. And in the future, it will be the blood of Christ that saves us from the wrath of God and ushers us in to perfection and joy eternal.

"As the old Gospel song goes, 'Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before!' Grasp the sweetness of all that the death of Christ purchased for you in the past, present, and future. Today, get actively engaged in your present salvation, and praise the Lord that you will be saved from the wrath to come.

"Precious Jesus, I humbly bow before you, thanking you for all that your death on the cross purchased for me -- I want to honor you by obeying you today."

Are you rejoicing in your salvation today?  If not, take a few minutes to thank Jesus for what He did to save us - remember the price He paid - and purpose in your heart to live a life of obedience as an outward sign of the inward change that has taken place.  You are SAVED from God's wrath!  COMPLETELY saved - not partially saved - but He has done a complete work and is continuing that work of salvation even now!  Hallelujah!

In Christ - I am crucified with Christ

I am crucified with Christ...
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Truth for Life - Alistair Begg/C.H. Spurgeon

The Deep Cost of Sin

"Christian, why would you play with sin? Has it not cost you enough already? Burnt child, will you play with the fire? What! When you have already been between the jaws of the lion, will you step a second time into his den? Have you not had enough of the old serpent? Did he not poison all your veins once, and will you play at the cobra's den and put your hand in the dragon's lair a second time?

"Do not be not so mad, so foolish! Did sin ever yield you real pleasure? Did you find solid satisfaction in it? If so, go back to your old drudgery, and wear the chain again, if it delights you. But inasmuch as sin never gave you what it promised to bestow but deluded you with lies, do not be snared by the old fowler: Be free, and let the memory of your enslavement prevent you from entering the net again!

"It is contrary to the designs of eternal love, which are all focused on your purity and holiness; therefore do not run counter to the purposes of your Lord.
Another thought should restrain you from sin. Christians can never sin cheaply; they pay a heavy price for iniquity. Transgression destroys peace of mind, obscures fellowship with Jesus, hinders prayer, brings darkness over the soul; therefore do not be the serf and slave of sin.

"There is still a higher argument: Each time you serve sin you are "crucifying once again the Son of God . . . and holding him up to contempt."1 Can you bear that thought? If you have fallen into any special sin during this day, it may be that my Master has sent this admonition to bring you back before you have wandered very far. Turn to Jesus afresh. He has not forgotten His love for you; His grace is still the same. With weeping and repentance, come to His footstool, and you shall be reunited in His love; you will be set upon a rock again, and your goings shall be established."
1Hebrews 6:6
One of the hardest things for me to watch are those who have come through our programs who either choose to go back to the lifestyle that ensnared them in the first place - and those who have never left in the first place.  I am always grateful that God gave me the strength - and will - to completely turn away from my old way of life - because it was headed nowhere.  GOD'S path has me headed somewhere - to a place of rest and peace without the drama and trauma of sin - and an eternity with Him.  Dear one - if you're ensnared - if you're trapped - it's never to late to fully reckon yourself "crucified with Christ" - dead to sin - alive "in Him!"  Turn away - and turn back - make Jesus your all in all - may His love for you be sufficient for all of your needs!

In Christ - I am a temple of the Holy Spirit

I am the temple of the Holy Spirit...

I Corinthians 6:19,20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

From John MacArthur's Study Bible (1 Corinthians 6: 12-20)

"As one who is washed, sanctified, and justified eternally by God's grace, the believer is set free.  The Corinthians had done with that freedom just what Paul had warned the Galatians not to do:  'Do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh' (Galatians 5:13).  So in this section, Paul exposed the error in the Corinthian Christians' rationalization that they were free to sin, because it was covered by God's grace.

6:19 - "A Christian's body belongs to the Lord (v. 13), is a member of Christ (v. 15), and is the Holy Spirit's temple.  Every act of fornication, adultery or any other sin is committed by the believer in the sanctuary, the Holy of Holies, where God dwells.  In the OT, the high priest only went in there once a year, and only after extensive cleansing, lest he be killed (Lev. 16).

6:20 - "The precious blood of Christ is the price that was paid - and our supreme purpose is to glorify God in everything."

I'd never thought of it quite like that - we bring our sin right into the Holy of Holies - right into the presence of Jesus - who shed His blood so we could be free from the bondage of sin.  How our sin must break His heart!  How can we continue to drag our muck and mire into the sanctuary of the Most High God?!  I hope you'll take a really good look at your life and think about what you're bringing into His presence.

In Christ - I am a new creature in Christ

I am a new creature in Christ...

II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Hidden Potential by Tracie Miles

“Christ sees your value and hidden potential. Do you?

“I was challenged by this thought recently after putting my son to bed.

“Every night, I receive the same request when I tuck him in. He looks at me with big, blue eyes, pokes his bottom lip out for sentimental effect, and asks for a bedtime story. Last night was no exception. As usual, I skimmed the contents of his room. Searching for an item that might plant a story idea in my head, I noticed his gray sock monkey.

“Instantly, my thoughts started weaving a tale about an old gray piece of cloth that lived on a shelf in a fabric store for many years. The story easily unfolded in my imagination as my little man sat wide-eyed, intently listening to the details.

“When the story ended, I kissed my son goodnight and immediately felt a gentle whisper in my spirit reminding me of the truth held in today's key verse. "You were once just like that little, old piece of fabric, but God transformed you into a new creation, too."

“You see, I started the bedtime story by explaining how this dull, gray piece of fabric would sit quietly on the shelf each day, desperately longing for someone to notice him. From his place on the dusty shelf, he had a bird's eye view of all the beautiful fabrics that held so much more potential.

“He admired the fabrics of vibrant orange and pink polka dots that would one day be transformed into frilly toddler dresses; the fabrics with elegant stripes that would make fine draperies for beautiful homes; the fabrics with tassels and shimmering coins dangling from their edges; and the myriad of fun fabrics, adorned with colorful cartoon characters.

“But he was just a boring old piece of gray fabric.

“Nothing special. Nothing elegant. Nothing valuable. Old. Outdated. Worthless.

“Certainly nothing worthy of being transformed into anything new and wonderful.

“One spring day, a frail elderly woman wandered into the store. The gray piece of fabric could tell she was a seamstress by the wrinkled tape measure around her neck and the rusty thimble on her finger.

“As she meandered around the store, continually brushing wisps of white hair from her face, she seemed to be searching for something special. Suddenly, her eyes fell upon the little piece of gray fabric tucked shyly away in the corner.

“He dared to think that maybe, just maybe, she would see potential in him.

“As the woman drew closer, his heart began to race. She gently picked him up and headed towards the cash register, adding buttons, fabric scraps, and thread to her hands along the way.

“When the seamstress returned home, she diligently set about her task. Gradually she transformed the piece of old gray fabric into an adorable new sock monkey, to be loved and cherished by her grandchildren. He made a difference in the hearts of children for many generations.

“The little piece of gray fabric, who thought he had no purpose, was transformed into something new in the hands of the seamstress. Although he felt worthless at one time, she looked beyond what he was; beyond his old life as a scrap of fabric. She saw him as something new, and helped him discover his value and hidden potential.

“After telling my son this story, God gently reminded me how I once felt much like that old piece of gray fabric sitting on the shelf. Ashamed, overlooked, unimportant, and paling in comparison to others. I didn't see how anything about me or my past — any of the old stuff — could be valuable. I felt like a scrap of leftover material.

“I believe God helped my imagination soar that night while sitting on the edge of my child's bed. He helped me remember that I have been transformed by Him, and although I spent most of life not seeing my hidden potential, He always had a plan and a purpose for me.

“Just like that little piece of gray fabric, which was transformed from something old into something new, we are new creations in Christ.

“Remember, Christ sees your value and hidden potential. And He wants to help you see it, too.

“Dear Lord, help me remember that I became a new creation when I accepted You as my Savior, and that my value is in You and You alone. Thank You for Your promise of having a plan and a purpose just for me. Help me to embrace the plans You have for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”

SO – how are you living today?  Like that piece of gray fabric – feeling worthless and unusable – or like the sock monkey?  (I’m not sure I want to life like a sock monkey – but you know what I mean!)  Are you living the TRUTH of who you are “in Christ” today – or do you still live like that old person who died with Christ and has been raised to a NEW life?  Unlike the fabric, we carry all sorts of baggage into our new life – old habits really do die hard – and it can feel like hard work to change and conform into His image.  Let me tell you a secret - it IS hard work!  That’s why it feels hard!  Every day we get the choice to live like Daughters/Sons of the King – set free – dead to sin – the Bride of Christ – a NEW CREATURE – or we can choose to drag that old man around with us everywhere we go.  It’s up to us – to you – to me – to decide how we’re going to live.  I hope – and pray – that you are choosing to live as that new person – radically changed for the Savior!  Sharon

In Christ - I am dead to sin

Romans 6:1-4,17,18  What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?  By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?  We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

I Gotta Die
Karen Ehman

"[I assure you] by the pride which I have in you in [your fellowship and union with] Christ Jesus our Lord, that I die daily [I face death every day and die to self]." 1 Corinthians 15:31 (AMP)

“My 14-year-old son has a fondness for iPod games; ones where a creature has to jump, twist, dodge and dart in an effort to stay alive. Often he plays them on our short commute to school each morning.

“As we drive, we go over pick-up instructions. (At the middle school after wrestling practice? Or at the high school if there is optional weight-lifting that day? And what time?)

“I also give my ‘Be sure your sins will find you out’ lecture that my own sweet mama often gave me.

“The man cub just keeps playing his game, acting as if he's not listening. But I know he is.

“Often, when jockeying for position in the parental carpool line, I will inform my boy it's time to get out of the vehicle. Usually, still engaged in the game he will utter the same phrase to me, ‘Hang on a second. I gotta die.’

“As in, ‘I'm still finishing this round. I don't want to power off just yet. Let my character finish this round until it dies. Then I will get out of the car.’

“As he uttered it this morning, it spoke to my soul.

“As a follower of Christ, I am to die to self. But so often, I do not. I elevate self. I promote self. I think little of the other person and much of me.

“But before I react ... before I hurl a harsh word ... before I pass judgment or speak unkindly to my husband or snap at my child, perhaps I need to take a deep breath ...

“To pause and ponder ...

“To say in a spiritual sense, ‘Hang on a second. I gotta die.’

“Die to self.

“Die to flesh.

“Die to my ‘rights’ that often result in my acting wrongly.

“Yes, Paul said it best in today's key verse, ‘I die daily.’

“Does this mean in everything?

“So often when we think of Jesus' admonition that there is no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend, we think of the dramatic ways that might happen. We might jump in front of a car in order to get our friend out of harm's way. A soldier might willingly give up his life on the battlefield.

“But what if it also means that we learn to die to self in the every day details of life? In my interactions with others, especially those within my own family? These daily, hourly and even moment-by-moment decisions sometimes seem difficult!

“And, if trying in our own strength, they will also be impossible. It is at these junctures that we must draw deep from the power the Holy Spirit offers and let His proper response over-ride our natural and sinful one.

“So, the next time we want to react in a way to another person that won't please God, let's remember my game-lovin' man cub. And before we speak, let's take a deep breath; a pause that centers our heart, snaps our soul to attention and gently declares ...

“Hang on a second. I gotta die.

“Dear Lord, may I purpose to die daily. To both act and react in a way that pleases You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”

OUCH!  Dying to self doesn’t feel good at all – in fact, there are times when it’s downright PAINFUL!  BUT – there’s something about it that brings a sense of inner peace, too – when you know you’ve died to yourself and your own needs, you’ve just experienced a little taste of what it means to “life for Christ.”  It’s a question – and a choice – we need to ask ourselves daily.  Have you died today?  I’ve tried – but I have to admit that the flesh is a lot stronger than it looks!

In Christ - I am at peace with God

HI, friend!  I know it’s been several weeks since I sent a devotional to you – I’ve been to Israel and back during that time!  I hope you missed hearing from me!

I am at peace with God...

Romans 5:1,2 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Psalms 29:11 The LORD gives strength to His people; the LORD blesses His people with peace.

Psalms 85:8 I will listen to what God the LORD will say; He promises peace to His people, His saints--but let them not return to folly.

Psalms 119:165 Great peace have they who love Your law, and nothing can make them stumble.

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 54:10 "Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, Who has compassion on you.

How Do I Let Peace Rule?
Samantha Reed

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. Colossians 3:15 (NIV)

“No more able are we to drive the rain back into the clouds by holding hands to the sky...

“Or stretch a rainbow's colors wide by scurrying to grasp its tails...

“Or force the tides to retreat by running at the sea...

“No more capable of these feats are we, than to pursue and capture peace.

“Peace.

“That for which the world wars. Families crumble. People roam. That for which we compromise, and improvise, and televise: It's here... if only you race after it with your time, your money, your life.

“But for all our chasing, we never lay hold of peace. Not until we reckon with these nine words that beckon a stillness. A truth that causes shoulders to fall and jaws to relax. This scripture tells us there's peace a' plenty, free for all.

"’Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts’ (Colossians 3:15 NIV).

“If we're to find peace, we must become a pupil of He who is our Peace, Jesus Christ. He who is the Word. And this bit of Word, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts," is a fine educator.

“This truth teaches us to slow down. Those two strong words, "let" and "rule" mean to "umpire" our hurried heart. So when circumstances crumble and we worriedly scramble to right them, we are taught to pause and call our heart to peace. How do we do this? Through intimate knowledge of He who is our Peace.

“Christ is just, as Esther's courage and Haman's defeat reflects. (Esther 7)

“Christ redeems, as Job's great loss and even greater gain assures. (Job 42:7-17)

“Christ is trustworthy, as His promised resurrection proves. (Matthew 28:1-10)

“Christ controls the storms, as calmed winds and waves attest. (Mark 4:35-41)

“It will take time to teach our hearts to let peace rule. Umpires don't begin careers in the World Series. Indeed, umpires go through rigorous training and schooling. They must work for years in the minor leagues before even dreaming of the majors.

“We too must set our heart and mind to learning. A good place to start is with the minors. Calling our hearts to peace when running late, dinner burns, scrapes and bruises happen, and fender benders occur. This is our practice and preparation for when the doctor calls, the pink slip is given, the papers are served, and the accusations fly.

“We call our hearts to trust in He who is faithful to us in the small things, so we learn His character again and again. This gives our hearts the training needed to know He is trustworthy to us in the big things, the in-between things... everything.

“Each call leads to another, which leads to an eventual place of surety. A place where the chase ends. And peace begins.

“Dear Lord, You are our Peace. Teach me Your ways, direct me in Your truth. Help me relax my shoulders, loosen my tense jaw, calm my hurried heart. I want to know You more and more. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”

People all around you are seeking after peace.  Some will try to find it in a bottle – a pill – a new relationship – but we know that true peace is found only in Jesus!  I’ve tried some of the other ways to peace – and they may have helped for the moment, deep in my heart I was anything BUT peaceful.  The turmoil I felt as a result of being separated from God became unbearable – and there were times when suicide looked like a really good way out.  Praise JESUS I didn’t fall for that lie from the enemy!  I fell for Jesus instead!  Right into His waiting arms!  From that moment on I have experienced a peace that truly does “surpass understanding.”  That’s not to say that I don’t ever feel anxious – I do – but now I know I can turn to the One who died to make real – lasting – eternal - peace possible! When I do struggle I get deep into God’s word – because the mind that is steadfast will be at peace – that’s a promise!  Sharon

In Christ - I am valued by God

I am valued by God...

Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Today’s Devotion by Mike MacIntosh
May 8, 2012

When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, "Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it."
Mark 8:34-35

“What makes a diamond so valuable?  Essentially, a diamond is just a rock -- a pretty, sparkling rock.  Intrinsically, it is basically composed of the same earthly elements as other rocks, and is even usually pretty small in comparison.  But diamonds are valuable because people love them.  Boy, we spend entire savings accounts on diamonds because we love them.  Unless diamonds were in demand -- unless they were loved -- they would have no value.  In the same way, absent God's love for us, our lives would be without value.  You see, your life is valuable not because you own assets, or give money to charity, or even because you are a good person and love others.  Your life is valuable because you are loved by God.

“You are loved by the Lord of heaven and earth, who formed your inwards parts (Psalm 139:14) and who ‘knew you before you were born’ (Jeremiah 1:5).  You are loved by the Creator of everything you've ever known, whose thoughts toward you are ‘more than can be numbered’ (Psalm 40:5) – ‘thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope’ (Jeremiah 29:11).  God so loved you that He gave His only begotten Son to die for you.  Why?  So that by believing in Him, you would ‘not perish, but have everlasting life’ (John 3:16).  Whether you choose to believe it or not, God loves you.  And whether you realize it or not, your life is invaluable because of His infinite love for you.

“But imagine a diamond sitting lifelessly under glass in a store.  If someone came and offered the full asking price for the diamond -- in cash -- wouldn't you think it absurd for the shopkeeper to refuse the sale?  Why would he essentially render the diamond worthless, both to himself and to the potential buyer, by refusing the cash for it?  Until the diamond is purchased, its value is not realized.

“In the same way, Jesus Christ offers to pay -- in full -- the debt for sin of anyone who will believe in Him.  And make no mistake, it's a steep price; only He could pay it.  He sacrificed His very life as a ransom for ours, that we might no longer be ‘slaves of sin’ (Romans 6:17).  So why would we refuse?  Why would we reject His love when our entire value rests in it?  Why would we choose not only to render His love worthless, but to render ourselves worthless?

“You see, we fool ourselves if we think we are anything apart from the love and grace of God.  Jesus says in Mark 8:35 that ‘whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.’  If you reject Jesus, you reject the value of your own life, but if you surrender to Him, He will save your life!

“Let me encourage you today to surrender to Him anew.  If there is anything you are holding back from Him -- anything you cling to because it is ‘too valuable’ to give up -- surrender it to Him.  Maybe you've never surrendered your heart to Him at all.  Today is the day of salvation.  Or maybe you're struggling through a difficult time in your life.  Today is the day of restoration.  Let God's love for you be your strength, your hope, and your reason for living.  Let it be the foundation under your feet and the protection over your head.  Let His Spirit wash over you like a liquid waterfall of love.  He loves you!  You are valuable because you are loved by God.”

What can I add to that?  It’s pretty clear, isn’t it?  God values us because He CHOOSES to – and He values us so much that He was willing to die rather than spend eternity without us!  THAT, my friend, is amazing love!  Rest is how valued you are by the King of kings this day!  Sharon

In Christ - I am the salt of the earth and the light of the world

I am the salt of the earth and the light of the world...

Matthew 5:13-16 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.  You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

January 5, 2013
Daily Devotional – Charles Spurgeon/Alistair Begg

Reflecting on Light

“And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.”  Genesis 1:4

“Light might well be good since it sprang from that fiat of goodness, ‘Let there be light.’ We who enjoy it should be more grateful for it than we are, and see more of God in it and by it. Physical light is said by Solomon to be sweet, but gospel light is infinitely more precious, for it reveals eternal things and ministers to our immortal natures. When the Holy Spirit gives us spiritual light and opens our eyes to behold the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ, we behold sin in its true colors, and ourselves in our real position; we see the Most Holy God as He reveals Himself, the plan of mercy as He propounds it, and the world to come as the Word describes it. Spiritual light has many beams and prismatic colors, but whether they be knowledge, joy, holiness, or life, all are divinely good. If the light received be thus good, what must the essential light be, and how glorious must be the place where He reveals Himself. O Lord, since light is so good, give us more of it, and more of Yourself, the true light.

“No sooner is there a good thing in the world than a division is necessary. Light and darkness have no communion; God has divided them--let us not confound them. Sons of light must not have fellowship with deeds, doctrines, or deceits of darkness. The children of the day must be sober, honest, and bold in their Lord's work, leaving the works of darkness to those who will dwell in it forever.

“Our churches should by discipline divide the light from the darkness, and we should by our distinct separation from the world do the same. In judgment, in action, in hearing, in teaching, in association, we must discern between the precious and the vile, and maintain the great distinction that the Lord made upon the world's first day.

“O Lord Jesus, be our light throughout the whole of this day, for Your light is the light of men.”

Do you remember the song “This little light of mine – I’m gonna’ let it shine?”  It was a favorite song in Sunday School and VBS – and it’s probably still being sung by children all around the world!  The simple truth of that song is this – God has given us spiritual light, and by that light we have been guided out of the darkness of this world.  AND by that light we’re to help guide others out of that same darkness.  We can only do that when we are “turned on” – much like a flashlight is useless when it’s turned off, we offer no light to those around us if we’re not daily “plugged in” to our power source and making every effort to caste a bright light into our environment.  How bright is your light today?  Have you been plugging in – daily – to the source of power?  Are you consistently and faithfully avoiding the darkness in your own life?  God hasn’t asked us to leave this world (yet!) – but He REQUIRES that we do not walk as those who are without the light.  We can shine our lights INTO the darkness – but we cannot be effective if we are choosing to walk/play/persist in the darkness of this world.   Be the light of the world God has called you to be today!  Sharon
